Representative system pattern
Trade capture and reconciliation for a commodities desk
Business context
A desk running physical and financial books across three systems, with position assembled manually each morning and disputes resolved by email.
Engineering challenge
Restatements. Corrections arriving days later had to propagate through position, exposure, and settlement without destroying the record of what was believed at the time.
AYAI’s role
Architecture, data model, delivery, and the operations interface. Desk workflow designed jointly with the operations lead.
System built
- Event-sourced trade log as the single write path
- Deterministic reconciliation with tolerance rules per instrument
- Ranked exception queue with sign-off and a full comment trail
- Position and exposure derived, never entered
- Replay to any historical point for dispute resolution
Operating impact
Morning position assembly moved from a manual process to a reviewed exception list. Specific figures are withheld pending client permission.
